What are subtitles on a YouTube video?
In the broadcast industry, subtitles are also known as captions or closed captions, which are text-based transcriptions of dialogue and other sounds. Text can be shown instead of sound in digital video to represent the words spoken by actors or speakers; they might not be original recordings with audio.
By using subtitles, people who are hard of hearing (elderly viewers) can enjoy what is happening without needing to use any additional equipment.
Bigger Subtitles for YouTube
Here are four methods to make your subtitles larger and more visible. So let’s get started!
Method 1 for Adding Bigger Subtitles For Your YouTube Videos
If you have a computer, log in to YouTube Settings and go to the video with subtitles that are too small for you to read.
To adjust playback quality, click on the gear icon at the top-right of the screen and select “Playback settings.” Adjust playback quality until it works with your connection speed or takes up more space on your screen if necessary, you can also change the resolution here by clicking around in some menus.
Make sure captions are turned off for all three sub-headings (Captions displayed while playing videos; Captions automatically displayed when language is detected; Captions always displayed on mobile devices).
Method 2
YouTube.com/captions settings. This method can be a little tricky, so we’ve illustrated it with screenshots for you below!
Sign in to your YouTube account and go to youtube.com/captions (you may need to scroll down the page if there are many other options listed at the top). Click “Settings” next to the search bar where you type video titles or channels. The text should be black instead of white as it does on the rest of the YouTube page.
Next click “Edit Captions Settings” which will take you through three different screens before allowing you to make the size of the subtitles bigger.
Method 3 to bold YouTube subtitles
YouTube Subtitle App by Google. This app is actually free and it’s on the Play Store!
Install the Subtitles for YouTube app from the link below in your mobile browser or favorite app store on your device to use this method- You should then be directed to a page with a green “download now” button on the right-hand side of the screen. Click on it to download and install on your phone.
Open YouTube on your device (in whatever app you normally watch videos) and find the video that has small captions–once you find it, tap “subtitles,” which should be right next to where you type titles or channels.
Here you can select the language for which subtitles will show up, make them bigger or smaller according to your needs and find a list of other languages that might be interesting to watch!
Method 4
The last way to upload multiple videos on YouTube with bigger subtitles is to use a Google Chrome extension, which should be readily available through your browser’s extensions section if it is not already installed.
This method works like Method # two, but with a few extra advantages, such as the ability to resize them according to the preset preferences you set, or even to download them as a video file, so that you can watch them later on your mobile device or in another browser
Pro tip
The font size of captions can also be changed by going to youtube.com/captions and clicking “Settings” at the top-right–you can then click on the three dots next to “Font Style” in order to select a new one that is more comfortable for you.
